Bridge to Bezi is a cycling event to raise awareness of Zimbabwe’s orphan crisis as well as to raise funds for The Michael Project, an organisation working in Zimbabwe with vulnerable children. The housing, schooling and feeding of kids all comes at a great cost, and with the world going through a difficult time, we wish to provide some light at the end of what has been a difficult tunnel, and ease the difficulties on the incredible people within the project.
Annually cyclists take on the Bridge to Bezi challenge with the aim of raising funds for a specific goal to help with the crisis and in 2022 the goal is to raise $50 000 to pay much needed school fees for 25 children in The Michael Project.
The Bridge to Bezi challenge is back in 2022 as cyclists prepare to take on 750kms in 5 days, from 8th to 12th August 2022. They will ride from Beit Bridge on the Limpopo River, Zimbabwe’s southern border with South Africa, to the Victoria Falls bridge which spans the Zambezi River on the country’s North-Western border with Zambia.
The nine cyclists who are up for the 2022 challenge are: Gus Hulley, Dave Hobbs, Rupert Wilkinson, Stan Flowers, Bob Henson, Munya Muriva, Charlie Schmidt, Keith Cohen and John Rivers.
The Michael Project was founded in 1997 and runs a number of programmes that provide housing, schooling, trauma counselling as well as courses for adoptive families, with the main goal to see as many children placed in happy, permanent families as possible.
